ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday notified Khawaja Saad Rafique-member of the National Assembly (MNA) following the decision of the electoral tribunal to re-vote on the NA-125.
Faisalabad Electoral Court Judge Rashid Javaid Mehboobi had declared null and void the results of the general elections of 2013 in NA-125 and ordered a re-election Monday.
The trial judge also ordered re-poll in PP-155 constituency of the Punjab Assembly.
Hamid Khan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had contested the victory of PML-N Khawaja Saad Rafique, claiming that the 2013 elections had been rigged.
Saad Rafique had pocketed 123 416 votes of the electorate beating PTI Hamid Khan, who claimed 84 495 votes.
The PML-N on Wednesday decided to challenge the verdict of the electoral court in the Supreme Court in connection with the holding of the election in the constituency NA-125 Lahore.
Speaking at a press conference, the Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal questioned how his party managed to win by-elections were rigged if the 2013 general elections.
He said that the party leadership has decided to challenge the verdict of the electoral court in the apex court of the country after consultation with legal experts.
