One of the main reasons for the fall of Pakistan in sports is that the heroes of the past are not given due respect. Other countries make movies on their heroes of the 50s and 60s, but most Pakistanis do not even know the name of the first gold medal ever in Pakistan.

Pakistan participated in the 1948 and 1952 Olympics after its creation, but returned empty-handed. The dead lock was broken in 1954 Asian Games in Manila, Philippines, when Pakistani fighter Din Muhammad finally won a gold medal in the flyweight (52kg) category after beating Pakistan Indian fighter.

Interestingly, the organizers have Pakistan flag and the national anthem as it was not used before. The Indians asked to use their anthem and flag as former coach Din Muhammad (before equity) was now the coach of India. But Din Muhammad refused to take the medal and said only will stand on the podium after the Pakistani flag is hoisted and the national anthem is played.

The organizers had to arrange the anthem and the national flag of Pakistan. And that was the moment in Pakistan’s national anthem was played and the flag was hoisted on a sports stadium for the first time.

Din Muhammad also beat Japanese wrestler Yushu Kitano, who was the hot favorite in the flyweight category. But he was disappointed when he returned and was not welcomed it deserved. He suffered an injury during a practice session and authorities wrestling not take care of him, so he had to qualify for the retirement of wrestling. After watching the behavior of the wrestling federation, Din Muhammad was disappointed and this was the reason that kept children home from wrestling reasons and lived a life of a farmer. Now 88 years old, Din Muhammad lives in a small village near Batapur Wahga border, waiting for fame and respect he deserves.

The series is proposed in the United Arab Emirates agreed in a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two tables last year, but is still awaiting approval from New Delhi.
