ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the US is an important partner of Pakistan in all fields, especially in economy, defense and the fight against terrorism.
He was talking to the national security adviser US Dr. Susan Rice, who called on him in Islamabad on Sunday. The meeting focused on issues of bilateral interest and the future of relations between Pakistan and the United States. The Prime Minister said Pakistan sees its relations with the US in the interest of both countries, the region and the world.
Nawaz Sharif said he is awaiting his visit to the US in October this year as an opportunity to further strengthen the ties between the two countries.
On occasion, Rice praised Pakistan’s efforts in fighting terrorism.
US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson and Director of Homeland Security were present at the meeting.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security Sartaj Aziz, special assistant to the Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs also attended the meeting.
